I am Lucas Gumbiner. I started into the world of knife making in the summer of 2016 at the age of 17, when my parents decided I needed a hobby. As a joke, I asked them to buy me a forge, and to my surprise they said yes. I spent hundreds of hours on YouTube and various forums exploring how to make knives. In my research, what intrigued me most was the etched imagery of damascus steel. I then decided I wanted to start forging my own damascus. Through much trial and error as well as influences from the generous knife making community, I discovered the similar folded steel patterns of Japan. This process led me to my infatuation with Japanese style culinary knives, which are now my specialty. The composition, artistic lines, and appreciation for both classic and modern, inspire my current style.
